When does it make sense to rent a laptop?
Today, it’s difficult to imagine having to operate without a smart device. Whether that device is a laptop, tablet, or phone, having access to the internet and the applications those devices host (i.e. Microsoft Office), seem to be a necessity. However, with technology changing so rapidly, purchasing a new laptop or other smart device may not always be the best route…especially when considering the budget. So, when does it make sense to rent a laptop? And is it worth it?
There are multiple situations which make sense to rent a laptop. Here’s just a few:
- Temporary Replacement – if you’re in a bind and need a laptop ASAP, whether your current laptop breaks and needs repair or is temporarily out of commission, you can easily rent a laptop to save against the cost of buying a new device in the interim. We all want the latest and greatest, but if that repair is only going to take a few weeks, it may be worth it to investigate the available laptops for rent.
- Specific Requirements – should you have an upcoming product demanding software with specific requirements (processor, memory, etc.) being able to rent a laptop specifically for that project is an extremely convenient option.
- Event Needs – for large scale events, education workshops, conferences, etc. renting multiple laptops for both the presenters as well as attendees can be very practical. Plus, if you must travel to those events, it’s easy to have those laptops shipped directly to the convention center or conference area for set up. After the event, simply ship them back.
- Destination Rentals – should you be traveling and don’t want the hassle of packing your own device, renting a laptop at your destination can be an extremely convenient option. You can even have specific applications pre-installed on the device to simplify things.
- Try Before You Buy – prior to purchasing a new device, being able to rent a laptop to test out for a few days or weeks, allows you to feel confident before committing to purchasing.
- Educational Needs – we often hear from students who need a laptop for a summer session or semester to complete specific coursework. Being able to rent a laptop is a more inexpensive option to purchasing new.
- Renting in the Short-term – this one’s a no brainer, but if you only need a laptop temporarily, renting that device can save quite a bit compared to purchasing new.
- Cost – if you only need a laptop for a limited time, and your budget is low, renting can be a much more affordable option
In case you’ve never rented a laptop or other smart device before, the process is straight forward. Let’s take a look.
