When should you rent a gaming PC?
What was once considered a fun little hobby in the late 2000s, evolved into a huge market with no slowing down in sight. All the major PC manufacturers now have their own specific gaming PCs lines – Lenovo LEGION, Dell Alienware, Asus ROG, and HP Omen. Esports (short for electronic sports) is now a widely popular mainstream competitive sport.
To own one of these higher end gaming PCs can come at a hefty price tag with the average systems ranging from $1000 to $4000 USD.
So, when does it make sense to rent a gaming PC? Here’s a few scenarios we’ve run across in the rental industry.
- Testing a New System – the option to rent a gaming PC gives you the opportunity to test drive the system and its components, such as its GPU or processor, before committing to purchase one yourself. This is a good option if you’re not 100% certain of the specs you may want.
- Gaming on a High-Performance PC for an Event – for events where high performance is especially important (i.e. LAN parties, gaming tournaments or streams), being able to rent a gaming PC provides you with the edge you need, without having to own the kit yourself. When these gaming events are not local, and require you to travel to a host destination, it can be convenient to schedule the gaming PC shipped to that site.
- Short-Term Needs – this one is kind of a no-brainer, but if you only need a gaming PC temporarily (i.e. weekend gaming session with friends or while traveling, etc.) being able to rent a gaming PC is a much more cost-effective solution.
- Budget Constraints – if you’re looking for top-tier hardware but the price tag is out of your budget, being able to rent a gaming PC is a nice option. You can avoid the huge investment up front while waiting to determine if that system is something you will need in the long term.
- Temporary Upgrade – technology is ever-evolving, and so are the performance demands of the games. If your current gaming PC isn’t able to handle the latest and greatest game requirements, renting a high-end rig temporarily is a perfect option.
- Lack of Space or Commitment – if you don’t necessarily have the room for a gaming system to be set up permanently, being able to rent a gaming PC allows you to enjoy the performance of that system and the games it supports without the long term commitment of keeping it. You can rent by the day, week, or month. Once you’re done, simply return it.
